Castril and the mountains
Castril offers a greener contrast to the open Altiplano, with forested slopes, cliffs, streams and dramatic river gorges.
The Cerrada del Río Castril follows the river along wooden walkways, a suspension bridge and a short tunnel, making it one of the area’s most accessible and memorable walks.

Explore northern Granada by car, motorcycle, bicycle or on foot, following quiet roads and routes through badlands, river valleys, villages and mountain scenery.

Simple food and small-town rhythms
This is not an area shaped around large tourist resorts. Everyday life centres on village bars, family-run restaurants, bakeries, small supermarkets and local routines.
In Orce and the surrounding villages, tapas are often served with drinks in the traditional Andalusian way. Regional cooking is simple and hearty, with grilled meats, stews, local produce and Segureño lamb among the area’s best-known specialities.
Opening days and hours can be limited, particularly in smaller villages. Guests staying at Leonard’s Lookout should plan food, fuel and shopping in advance, especially before late arrivals or longer days exploring northern Granada.

The landscape does not disappear at sunset
Low population and limited artificial lighting allow the night sky to remain part of the landscape after dark.
On clear nights, guests can step outside to see visible stars and the Milky Way, while astrophotographers can use Leonard’s Lookout as a private base for deep-sky, Milky Way and solar imaging.

Your own transport is essential
Leonard’s Lookout is in a rural location near Orce, so guests need their own transport. Public transport is not a practical option for reaching the property or exploring the surrounding villages, landscapes and attractions.
Orce is around seven minutes away, with small shops, bars and everyday essentials. Huéscar is approximately 20 minutes away and offers larger supermarkets, more services and a wider choice of places to eat.
The exact property address and arrival instructions are provided after booking. Plan fuel and shopping in advance, particularly for late arrivals or longer day trips through the Granada Geopark.
